Health

Reproductive health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being in all matters relating to the reproductive system. It implies that their is capability to reproduce, and the freedom to decide if, when, and how often to do so. To maintain one’s sexual and reproductive health, people need access to accurate information and the safe, effective, affordable and acceptable contraception method of their choice.

Peace and Security

Peace and security is about promoting peace, gender equality and justice. Systems of inequalities must be addressed to identify the root causes of and challenges to women’s participation in social, economic and political processes. The greatest contemporary threats to Kenya’s peace and security are posed by transnational networks of terrorist groups operating within Kenya’s boundaries and in neighboring Somalia.

Promotion of Gender Equality and Access to Justice

Access to justice for individual women is often assumed to reside in a criminal justice response to the perpetrator. However, women may identify other aspirations as their idea of justice for the harm they have experienced: the ability to seek safety through effective protection orders; physical and mental recovery through good quality and accessible health services. Gaining access to justice for acts of gender-based violence is important to secure relief at the individual level

Economic Empowerment and Education

Investing in women’s economic empowerment sets a direct path towards gender equality, poverty eradication and inclusive economic growth. Women make enormous contributions to economies, whether in businesses, on farms, as entrepreneurs or employees, or by doing unpaid care work at home. Gender discrimination means women often end up in insecure, low-wage jobs, and constitute a small minority of those in senior positions. Counties need to adopt and implement regional and national plans, legislations, policies, strategies, budgets and justice mechanisms in order to strengthen women’s economic empowerment.

Governance

A key contributing factor to women's lack of political participation is women's marginalization in civic and political spaces. Despite 50 years of women's movement advocacy and quotas in local government bodies, women's representation, particularly that of young women and WWDs is poor and the necessary impact has not been achieved. Elected women are frequently unprepared, lack a feminist perspective or become proxies of male political actors. Social norms and traditions ensure that women voices and leadership are minimal even in customary spaces and decision making process.

Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience

Ecosystem-based adaptation is a strategy for adapting to climate change that harnesses nature-based solutions and ecosystem services. For instance, protecting coastal habitats like mangroves provides natural flood defenses; reforestation can hold back desertification and recharge groundwater supplies in times of drought; and water bodies like rivers and lakes provide natural drainage to reduce flooding. CWID has supported projects that mitigates in Climate change through planting  10,000 Mangrove trees along the Tudor Creeks and Mwangala. The youth groups also are involved in  briquette making and solid waste management project.
